No more novelty!
WOW! Another year over, and another Christmas done and dusted! Although I adore Christmas, I can't really say the same thing about the clothing. Sure, Christmas can be a time for snuggling up by the fire and Christmas carols, but ever since I was aboout two, I have hated the novelty merchandise. Luckily, now that I am a bit older, I am not forced to wear itchy jumpers because I look "cute" in them, but all the same, sometimes the family chuck one on me for a quick Christmas photo... I do not look happy in those photos. Anyway, enough of me ranting, let's get on with the fresh start to the new year! I'm going to try to cover all of you basic "must haves" for this cold winter, so buckle up!
Now, where do we start? Oh, it's got to be the hats. Hats are definitely a staple for the colder months; I mean, who wants to go outside and get a cold head? I know, it's another irrational fear of mine, but it has some truth! In the time of fires and occasional snow, I opt for the wooliest of hats. I have a few beanies in my collection and I have my favourites, but I try to wear all of them. If you are thinking of buying these slices of heaven (for your head) I would start with a cream or navy one. Make sure you get a colour that goes with everything before getting experimental. Beanies give you a sort of "tomboy"ish look that works amazingly if you want to dress it down with legging, a t-shirt and an oversized denim jacket. But, I must say, beanies are a very casual sort of accessory so don't start pairing them with you fancy dresses. But otherwise, they are perfect!

Leggings

Next is an item of clothing that I don't think we give enough credit to. Right now, I basically live in leggings. They are the perfect alternative to jeans and look more "put together" than the olde trackie bottoms! If you pair some black leggings with a coloured long sleeve top that is a big longer, you are safe to go into public. But, your legs might get a bit chilly! You can also pair some knitted leggings with a t-shirt and a nice jacket. Leggings to the rescue, once again!
Slouchy shoes
Now, where would I be without my trusty slouchy shoes? My UGGs are what I live in (along with my leggings) and although I don't often wear them into town, they are a perfect addition to my wardrobe. The comfiness of these shoes just sum up winter! Although I have some pretty battered UGGs, you can get similar ones just about everywhere. But, for the record, every girl needs them. Style them with jeans or leggings, or, if you know you aren't going anywhere but your own house, chuck on some trackies!

Booties

Oh of course this was going to come up! Is it concerning that my collection of booties grows throughout the year, even the summer? Anyway, enough of my petty problems. Booties are just perfect for the winter, and if you don't have any, go get some! Your life will be at least 10 times better (but don't guaruntee me on that). They are the perfect type of shoes to wear with jeans and a pretty top but are also great to make dresses more casual. If you don't know what types of shoes to wear if you are going to town with the girls or eating dinner with the family, chuck on some pretty booties and your outfit will be made up. The perks are that, even though they don't cover your whole calf, they keep your toes warm. I have been loving cut-out booties like the one on the left, I got these in France and (as I am a very "colour neutral" person) these go with literally all of my winter clothes.
Sweaters
Next up are sweaters. Again, they are super comfy. You can get them just about anywhere too! I like wearing simple coloured ones but I know that there are soon nice patterned ones out there that I am eager to try. As we come into Spring (sort of) it gets a tiny bit warmer so a thin long sleeved will help you stay at a good temperature. Also, they are not restraining at all like other pesky tops in which you can't reach anything properly. Put with jeans and add some jewellary to make you outfit a little more girly.
